Preaching the Gospel of Grits and Gravy

Let me preface this by saying that I’m the worst kind of SEC fan.  I don’t have the pedigree and owe full disclosure to all who read this.  I understand that I’m a lesser being.

I was born in Jersey, moved to North Carolina when I was one and have spent most of my life surrounded by and immersed in an Atlantic Coast Conference world.  When I was a boy, I chose to give allegiance to the local ACC team, Wake Forest.  Thus began a long, painful childhood as I patiently waited for Charlie Brown to finally kick that elusive football.  As you might expect, I spent a majority of my formative years trying to find a rooting alternative for the times when the mighty Deacons made me throw stuff.

Thank you, Uncle Doug, for moving to Knoxville.

UPDATE 3:28 p.m.:
North Carolina went on a quick 8-2 run out of the under-16 timeout, but they can't afford to trade baskets with the Blue Devils. Williams, Jones and Peters all in double figures for Duke. Carolina shooting just 28.3 percent from the floor.

HALFTIME UPDATE:
Duke goes on a 14-2 run to close out the first half and lead the Tar Heels, 39-24. Elizabeth Williams has 11 for the Blue Devils, followed by 9 from Haley Peters. North Carolina is led by Waltiea Rolle's 10 points and Latifah Coleman's 7. Duke has a 9-rebound lead on the Heels and has taken advantage of Tar Heel turnovers, scoring 14 points. North Carolina is going to have to mount one more impressive comeback to win a title.

UPDATE: With 6:11 remaining in the first half here in Greensboro, Duke has taken a 23-20 lead over rival North Carolina. Duke's Haley Peters has 9 points and Duke has a 15-6 edge on the boards. Latifah Coleman came in for Tierra Ruffin-Pratt and promptly scored 7 points. Waltiea Rolle has come on strong of late, stemming a  11-0 Duke run with four straight points of her own.
